Abstract
496,929. Decorticating fibrous leaves. KRUPP GRUSONWERK AKT.-GES., F. June 30, 1938, No. 19428. Convention date, May 16. [Class 120 (i)] Leaves of phorinium fenex and other fibrecontaining leaves are stripped by the use of a beater drum 2 co-operating with a breast 3, Figs. 2 and 4, and a conveyer 4, 5 disposed at an angle thereto so as to rise upwardly and obliquely for guiding the leaves transverselv of the direction of their fibres between the drum 2 and breast 3, the leaves being drawn by the conveyer through co-operating parallel strips 6, 7 or the like which fold together the two halves of the leaf. The strips 6, 7 are adjustable vertically and as to their distance apart. After the tip end has been stripped the leaf is reversed and the root end treated. Two beater drums in series may be provided.
