Abstract

[Class 106 (iii)] In a ticket-cancelling machine as described in the parent Specification. a ticket strip is fed to severing mechanism within the machine which severs the ticket longitudinally at a position intermediate its side edges, one of the sub-strips so formed being subsequently ejected from the machine. The other sub-strip is stored in a container in the bottom of the casing 31 of the machine. The operating mechanism is mounted on plates 52, 53 and 54 and driven by an electric motor 44. The ticket is passed into the machine through an aperture on top of the casing 31 and presses down a lever 59 thereunder releasing the latter from a catch 60. A spring 64 then rotates the lever assemblage 59, 61, and 63 and closes contacts 73, thus starting motor 44. A pin 66 on a disc driven by the motor returns the levers to the inoperative position after a determined interval. The strip then passes through feed rollers 56 and 57 to a fixed guide carrying a pivoted member 76. If the strip is of double thickness the front end of member 76 is raised to such an extent that the rear end prevents the passage of the strip. A similar stopping member is mounted on an arm 80 and serves to prevent operation of the machine by a half width ticket strip. This member is situated in one half of the width of the path of the ticket and the arm 59 is in the other so that both devices cannot be actuated together by a strip of width less than the standard. The strip then passes through printing rollers 85 and 86. These mark the ticket with the name of the day and an indication as to whether it is morning, afternoon, or evening. The printing rollers are removable in order that the indications may be changed. Beyond the printing rollers is arranged a toothed or knurled wheel 95 which drives a counter 99 indicating the number of tickets that have passed through the machine. The strip then passes to cutting rollers 120 and 124 having overlapping cutting edges after which guides lead one half of the ticket down to the container and the other half is ejected through an opening at the front of the machine. The serial number of a ticket is arranged at each end thereof in such a manner that each half ticket bears a sufficient part of each number to identify the whole number from one half ticket.
