Abstract
495,185. Cathode - ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE. Feb. 9, 1937, No. 3852. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] The concentrating lens-system of a cathoderay tube comprises two lenses each consisting of a truncated cone with its smaller end towards the cathode and an annular diaphragm, the electrodes having higher positive potentials as they are further from the cathode. The lens nearer the cathode 3 consists of the cone 4 and diaphragm 1, and the second lens of a cone 6 attached to a cylinder 5, and a diaphragm 7. The spot on the screen may be the image of the cathode 3 or of the aperture of the diaphragm 1. The brightness of the spot is adjusted by varying the potential of the cone 4, its size by varying the potential of the cylinder 5 and cone 6, and the focal length of the lens system by varying the potential of the diaphragm 1. Examples of voltages and dimensions are given. The deflecting electrodes 8, 9, 10 are formed of sheet metal arranged to form a closed surface so that they can be heated by eddy currents to expel gas. The distance between the two sets of deflecting electrodes and that between the deflecting electrodes and the diaphragm 7 should be at least three times the diameter of aperture of the diaphragm 7 as set forth in Specifications 430,650 and 452,650.
