Abstract

A rust-preventative coating-material is prepared by heating a "sealing" or drying oil to 340 DEG C. until it has approximately gelatinized, adding a "penetrating" or comparatively fluid oil and allowing the mix to cool, the resultant composition being then mixed thoroughly with a "flexible" or semi-drying oil, a "penetrating" oil and a dryer. In the example, 20 gal. of tung or China wood oil are maintained at 340 DEG C. for 15-20 minutes, and then mixed with 20 gal. refined sardine oil. The concentrate so formed is mixed in the proportion of 20 parts with 30 parts of whale oil and 100 parts of sardine oil. A manganese dioxide dryer, prepared by heating 3 lb. cobalt acetate and 1 lb. manganese dioxide with 5 gallons oleic acid at 120 DEG F. until all acetic acid is expelled, is added in the proportion of 1/2 gal. to 100 gallons of the final mixture.
