Abstract

493,605. Electrolytic cells; moulding plastic substances. BAMAG - MEGUIN AKT.-GES. April 5, 1938, Nos. 10419 and 10420. Convention dates, April 28, 1937 and Aug. 3, 1937. [Class 41] [Also in Group V] A cell frame for an electrolyser of the filter-press type is made by moulding in a profile mould in one operation under high-pressure a cementasbestos mass mixed with a setting and densifying liquid in which a reinforcement is embedded. The mass may consist of 10-50 per cent asbestos, 10-35 per cent limestone and 50- 80 per cent cement; bitumen may be added. The final setting of the moulded article may be effected in a separate setting frame. The frames shown are formed with grooves 10 on one side and projections 9 on the other for interlocking the uppermost grooves and projections being deeper in order to prevent displacement. The surfaces may be coated with bitumen or a mixture thereof with asbestos, cement or talcum for sealing. The reinforcement consists of iron rings 12. Alternatively it may consist of wire netting, asbestos fabric or asbestos string. Recesses 11 are provided to receive the electrodes 14 and diaphragms 13. The frames are provided at the top with pairs of apertures, not shown, aligned to form ducts for the removal of gases, these being connected by vertical ducts in the frames to the anode and cathode compartments respectively.
