Abstract

493,313. Projectiles. BICKEL, E. April 20, 1937, No. 11248. [Class 9 (i)] A projectile for incapacitating aircraft contains at least three heavy bodies 6 connected by a long wire &c. 7 so as to form a star-like configuration when spread out, each of the bodies containing an explosive charge operated by impact. The projectile has a nose 1 containing a time fuze which ignites a charge 4 through a tube 2<1>, thereby separating a casing 5 from the nose 1 and body 2 to which the wire &c. 7 is coupled. A time fuze may be incorporated in the bodies 6 to set the impact fuze out of action after a predetermined time so that the bodies 6 may be inexplosive on reaching the ground. According to the Provisional Specification, an explosive charge may be located in the projectile to assist the spreading out of the bodies 6 when the casing 5 is removed.
