Abstract
Oils and fats are purified by treatment with highly gaseous-absorbent substances, such as silica gel, Florida earth or activated or other carbon, which have absorbed halogen in the dry state. Mixtures of the substances named may be used. When silica gel charged with halogen is used alone, the liquid may subsequently be treated with thiosulphate or brought into contact with active carbon, charcoal or liquid-containing substances, which will remove excess chlorine. The active carbon obtained as described in Specifications 283,968 and 324,729, [both in Class 90], may be used in the process. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 188,667 and 234,149, [both in Class 46].ALSO:Sugar solutions, are purified by treatment with highly gaseous-absorbent substances, such as silica gel, Florida earth or activated or other carbon, which have absorbed halogen in the dry state. Mixtures of the substances named may be used. When silica gel charged with halogen is used alone, the liquid may subsequently be treated with thiosulphate or brought into contact with active carbon, charcoal or lignin-containing substances, which will remove excess chlorine. The active carbon obtained as described in Specifications 283,968, and 324,729, [both in Class 90], may be used in the process.
