Abstract

493,003. Tables. BLACKBURN, G. G. July 13, 1937, No. 19357. [Class 52 (iii)] An adjustable table comprises an oblong top F carried by a telescopic column comprising a sleeve B in which slides a pillar C formed with a longitudinal groove C<1> in which is located a clamping plate H tightened by a screw L in the sleeve, a square platform D pivoted at the top of the pillar being adapted to engage rails G, fixed on the underside of the table top, so that the top can be placed with either its long or short sides parallel to the pivoting axis. The groove C<1> in the pillar is of T-section and the screw L passes through the sleeve B and engages a threaded hole in the clamping plate H. To retain the top F in different positions relative to the platform D, a ball catch D<2> on the platform engages recesses in the underside of the top. The pivotal joint comprises a fork D<1> on the platform D pivoted on a bolt J passing through the pillar C and tightened by a nut J<1>. Serrated discs may be interposed in the joint to give a positive lock. The base A has castors M and may be weighted or provided with a draw-out slide to prevent overturning when the top is moved to one side for use as a bed table.
