[Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Electric drag arrangements for spinning and twisting machines wherein the yarn is twisted and wound by the relative rotation of co-operaating parts, such as a flyer, and a spindle, bobbin or cop, are supplied with current the voltage of which is adjusted in accordance with the speed of the driven part, the diameter of winding, and the tension of the yarn. As shown in Fig. 1, the flyer motors 3<1> are suppled by a generator 3 driven by the main motor 4, and the spindledrag coils 20 are supplied by a generator 9 driven by a constant speed motor 13. The current of the field winding 10 of the generator 9 is adjustable by a regulator 12 in accordance with the diameter of winding, and is fed from a generator 11 driven by the motor 13 and having two separate field windings 8, 14, the latter being for self-excitation and the former supplied by an auxiliary generator 7 driven in accordance with the flyer speed by a motor 6. Modifications are described wherein, Fig. 2 (not shown), a second auxiliary generator driven by the motor 13 is arranged in series with the generator 7 so that the winding 8 assists the winding 14 at low speeds and opposes it at higher; wherein, Fig. 3 (not shown), the winding 8 is connected to the armature of the generator 11 ; wherein, Fig. 4 (not shown), the generator 9 is provided with a second field winding supplied from the generator 11 and controlled by a regulator connected with the brush-adjustment gear of the main motor 4 ; and wherein, Fig. 5 (not shown), the generator 7 controls a resistance in the circuit of the winding 8. An additional control in accordance with the tension of the yarn is effected by the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, wherein a field winding 14<1> of the generator 11 is controlled by a hand regulator 31 which can be short-circuited by a relay contact 33, 34 controlled by Tirrill regulator 40, 42 and an arm 38 engaged by the yarn. The regulator is supplied from the mains with alternating current, and the consequent oscillation of the lever 38 and the short-circuiting of the regulator through the relay 33, 34 is varied in accordance with the tension of the yarn. If the yarn breaks the regulator is disconnected by the contact of a lever 45, normally supported by the intact yarn, with a pawl 52 which opons the contacts 54, 55.
