Abstract
Oil is extracted from the blubber of whales or other sea animals by heating the finely divided blubber in the absence of added water to a temperature not exceeding 70 DEG C. under reduced pressure, whereby the oil is melted out and water is evaporated. The blubber is divided to a grain size preferably not exceeding 3 mm. and is heated in a vessel provided with stirring gear and heated indirectly by hot water, steam or low superheated steam. The oil is separated by sieves or by a filter press. Specification 257,582, [Class 91], is referred to.
