Abstract
A catalyst carrier comprises a layer of aluminium or aluminium alloy on a metal support other than aluminium, and a layer of aluminium oxide is artificially formed on the layer of aluminium or alloy. The support and/or the surface of the aluminium or alloy thereof may be roughened before applying either the metal coating and/or the oxide coating. The aluminium coating is preferably oxidized electrolytically, and may be alited or diffused into an iron support. The coating may also be sprayed on to the support. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a catalyst carrier consisting solely of a metal or an alloy thereof, which metal forms an oxide which is difficultly reducible, such as aluminium, and the surface of which is coated with a layer of the oxide. The metal or alloy may also be applied to the surface of the support together with a substance which can readily be dissolved out of the coating without affecting the metal or alloy to increase the surface thereof. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 315,798, [Class 82 (ii)], 369,909, (as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts), 396,453, and 401,368, [all in Group XXXVI].ALSO:A catalyst carrier comprises a layer of aluminium or aluminium alloy on a metal support other than aluminium, and a layer of aluminium oxide is artificially formed on the layer of aluminium or alloy.
