Abstract
489,536. Peeling fruit &c. MEYNARD, A. April 23, 1938, No. 12251. [Class 28 (ii)] A device for peeling fruit and vegetables of the kind having one or more cutting edges arranged parallel to a slot or slots in a concave metal blade, is characterized by the slot or slots being open at the outer end to permit peel to be removed therefrom by movement of the thumb of the hand holding the peeling-device. As shown, one slot 3 only is open, the other 3a being closed as usual. The device is widened at its base 2d to strengthen and prevent bending of the part 2. The cutting edges 4 are flat, i.e. are in one plane, to prevent rocking when the device is rubbed on a sharpening material. In modifications, both slots 3, 3a are open ended, the parts 2 are attached to the body of the device by riveting or welding, or one slot 3 only is provided, the opposite slot being replaced by a downwardly pressed embossment which serves as a resting point to prevent rocking when sharpening.
