Abstract
489,208. Gun mountings. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS. Aug. 14, 1937, No. 22412. Convention date, Aug. 20,1936. [Class 92 (i)] Relates to hydraulic training and elevating gear particularly for aircraft mountings of the " ring " type in which the training motor 8, Fig. 4, and the elevating motor 9 are controlled by separate valves S, H in a casing 30 the valves being actuated by a single lever 54 the sense of movement of which corresponds to the desired movements of the gun. According to the invention, the lever is controlled by stops or cams on the mounting to stop the motion in limiting positions of training and elevation. As shown in end view in Fig. 2, the elevating motor 9 drives shafts 11, 12 in opposite directions at speeds controlled by the position of the valve H in the casing 30. The shafts 11, 12 drive the elevating pinion 28 through a differential gear in a casing 10. A similar training motor mounted on the movable ring 3 rotates the shafts 13, 14, Fig. 3, to drive the training pinion 25, through the differential gear shown mounted in a casing 7 which is similar to that in the casing 10. The pressure supply to the motors is obtained from a pump 31, Fig. 4, driven by the aircraft engine, the pressure and exhaust pipes 32, 33 leading through the fitting 34 on the axis of the ring mounting to the valve casing 30 connected as shown with the motors 8, 9. The motors may be cut off from the pump by opening an overflow valve 35. The control lever 54, Fig. 5, is mounted on a ball joint 52 carried by the shaft 42 of the rotary training control valve S which is operated only when the lever is moved in the horizontal plane. On moving the lever in the vertical plane, a pin 57 on the lever head 53 moves in a vertical slot in the ball 52 and a member on a ring 60 rotates the elevating valve H. The end 56 of the control lever engages the limit control gear shown in Fig. 5 to return the lever to neutral position when limiting positions are reached. Movements of the lever in the horizontal plane are conveyed to a slotted arm 91 and cause rotation of a shaft 93 carrying a push rod 80 which at the limit of training movement of the gun engages a stop on the fixed ring 1 to cause return of the lever to neutral position. Depression control over certain arcs of training represented by cams 98 is effected by the engagement of the push rod 80 with one end of a lever 85 the other end of which is connected with the gun by a rod 88. The pivot 84 of the lever 85 is slidable vertically in a guide 82 and is connected to a pin 86 on a lever 87 engaging the arm 91. This arm is moved upwards to return the elevating valve to neutral position when the gun is depressed into a danger zone of training, the end of the lever 85 then bearing against the raised push rod 80 and causing the pivots 84, 86 to rise and move the lever 87. The stop 96 acts in a similar manner on the lever 85 when the limit of elevation is reached.
