Abstract

A lubricant has dispersed therein between ,05 and 1 per cent by weight of 2-mercaptobenzthiazole. The presence of this compound causes the formation of a thin film of a metallic compound on the bearing surfaces to inhibit wear. Soaps of Sa, Cr, Pb or Ni may also be present. Preferably, less than 0,2 per cent by weight of 2-mercaptobenzthiazole is used.
