Abstract
487,507. Stapling fibres. COURTAULDS, Ltd., COLESHILL, F. R., and McKEOWN, J. H. Jan. 8, 1937, No. 611. [Class 120 (iii)] In the production of staple fibre by a process in which a continuous thread or bundle of threads is stretched by passing in succession round two or more peripheral surfaces each rotating with a peripheral speed greater than the previous one and is thereafter cut, the thread or bundle before arrival at the cutter is passed round another peripheral surface rotating with a speed so much less than that of the last of the stretching surfaces as to compensate approximately for the contraction which takes place. The thread or bundle may be passed round a third roller rotating at a slower peripheral speed and it may form part of the second roller of reduced diameter. In an alternative the thread may be stretched by passing round a conical roller from the narrow to the broader end and may be allowed to contract on a second conical roller by passing round it from the base towards the narrower end. The surfaces may be grooved, corrugated or fluted. Specifications 289,028, [Class 120 (iii)], and 467,500, [Group IV], are referred to.
