Abstract
486,795. Electron multipliers; photo - electric cells. ZEITLINE, V., ZEITLINE, A., and KLIATCHKO, V. Dec. 16, 1936, No. 34621. Convention date, Feb. 8. [Class 39 (i)] An electron-multiplier comprises a number of flat secondarily emissive surfaces which are arranged edgeways in the path of a beam of electrons travelling substantially in the same direction which is focused on to the successive surfaces. In the arrangement shown the secondarily emissive surfaces K1 .. K4 are of cruciform shape, as shown in Fig. 1, and are carried on flat annular accelerating electrodes D1 .. D4; the electron stream is concentrated by means of a coil B on to the emissive surfaces as shown by the dotted lines. The first surface K1 may be coated with photoelectric material and excited by a beam of light focused on it by a lens. In a modification the coil B is omitted and the electrodes K1 ... K4 given a concave shape to produce the required concentration.
