[Class 98 (i)] An external member is provided on the casing of the camera capable of two movements, one, for example a rotation, for effecting focusing of the camera, and the other, for example a sliding movement, for operating the release of the objective shutter. In the form shown, as applied to a folding camera, the shutter release 8 is operated by the upturned end 33 of a lever 31 pivoted to a plate 6 sliding on the baseboard 2, and having a slot 29 at the end engaging a pin 28<1> on a lever 25 pivoted on the baseboard. The inner end of the lever 25 carries a pin 27 engaging a slot 26<1> in a sliding plate 10. The operating knob 14 has a pin 18 bearing on a sleeve 20 in contact with the end of the plate 10. The pin also lies in a slot in a sleeve 15 which carries a threaded rod 34. A double nut 37 sliding on the rod 39 engages the rod 34 so that rotation of the knob 14 causes transverse movement of the nut 37. The nut is coupled by a link 42 to one arm of a bell-crank lever 44, the other arm carrying a link 48 secured to the plate 6 which carries the lens-front 9. Rotation of the knob 14 accordingly effects the movement of the lens front for focusing, whilst a sliding movement of the knob is transmitted by the members 10, 25, 31 to operate the shutter.
