[Class 37] [Also in Group XL] In an oscillation-generator suitable for use in wave-analysis, an output frequency variable from, for instance, 0 to 100 kc./sec. is produced from a standard input frequency of 1000 c. /sec. by intermodulating the outputs of three oscillators, which are calibrated respectively from 1 to 1000 c./sec., from 0 to 9 kc. /sec. in ten steps, and from 0 to 90 kc. /sec. in ten steps, to give a direct reading of the output frequency. For the analysis of complex waves a variable band-pass filter is constructed by feeding into a fixed band-pass filter with a narrow pass band the output from a modulator into which the complex wave is fed together with the variable oscillation produced by means of the above oscillation-generator, the construction of which forms the subject-matter of the invention. The oscillator may be calibrated in terms of the difference between the frequency which it generates and the frequency of the fixed filter. A second oscillation generator constructed according to the invention is used for producing a comparison frequency, and may have some parts in common with the first oscillator.
