Abstract

485,627. Door fastenings. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SUTHERLAND, A. D. Nov. 20, 1936, Nos. 31793/36 and 16228/37. [Class 44] A fastening for doors comprises a collapsable wedge-shaped part B on a door and a friction grip provided by balls 21, 22 on the striking plate. The wedge-shaped part B, comprises two pivoted pieces 33, 34 urged towards one another by an embracing bow spring 63 and separated into the divergent positions shown by an operating spindle 59. Oblique bores 19, 20 in the striking plate house balls 21, 22, pressed inwards by springs 25, 26, which project into the cavity 24 and engage the oblique sides of the door part B which passes between the balls with wider end first as the door is closed. To release the door the spindle 59 is turned to permit the pieces 33, 34, under the pressure of the spring 63 to move into parallel positions. A spring-pressed safety latch may be provided.
