484,664. Magnetic tests. CLARK, W. J., LEWIS, J. G:, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 4, 1936, No. 30076. [Class 37] Non-ferromagnetic metallic material is tested, and its thickness, resistivity, or other physical property measured by associating it with a primary and balanced secondary coil system coaxially arranged on an iron core, the system being carried in a frame of insulation material and arranged so that the measurement is effected by unbalancing the coil system due to eddy current effects produced by the coil near the testpiece. The coils 3 ... 5 are mounted on an iron core 1, and the primary 4 is fed from source 8 through barretter lamps 9, meter 10 and current reducing resistor 11, the secondaries 3, 5 feeding a rectifier 12 and meter 13. One secondary winding may be slightly different from the other as regards number of turns, so that maximum sensitivity can be obtained by adjusting the position of the core 1. Before use, the meter is calibrated in respect of a standard of the same material as that under test. Specification. 425,586 is referred to.
