[Class 125 (ii)] The bottle &c. capping machine described in the parent Specification is adapted for power operation, and, as shown, a horizontal shaft 11, mounted above the capping head and driven from a shaft in the machine base 7, carries a pair of cams 14 which engage spring-pressed rods 18 in the capping head and a cam 15 which engages the plunger 20 operating within the head; in the event of any unusual resistance being encountered by the capping head the springs 19 beneath the rods 18 yield and prevent damage to the machine or an incorrectly positioned bottle. The shaft 11 and capping head may be carried by a slide adjustable vertically on a standard so that the machine can be used to cap bottles &c. of different heights. The bottles are fed to the capping head along the table 8 by a reciprocating bar 26 carrying push levers 27 having rollers at their ends to engage the bottles, the levers being pivoted on hubs carrying springs which hold projections 28 on the levers against stops 29 on the bar 26 during the forward feeding movement thereof and the springs allow the levers to yield and pass over the bottles as the bar moves backward. A bent feeler lever 30 mounted on the end of a vertical spindle 31 is moved by a spring 33 across the bottle track, and when a bottle passes under the capping head, the lever is rotated against its spring so that a bevelled cam 34 on the spindle 31 moves into the path of a pin projecting from a detent lever 36 mounted on the capping head 4 and controlling the roller 5 on the table feeding the discs 1 into the capping head and holds the lever from rising with the feed table ; the lever 36 is thus tripped to release the roller 5 and associated feed slide and allow the entry of a new disc into the feeding head while if a bottle is not positioned under the capping head, the cam 34 is not in position to engage the pin and no forward feed of the discs takes place. The discs are severed from the band 1 by a blade on a lever pivoted in the capping head and controlled by a nose on a spring-controlled lever pivoted on the standard 9 of the machine.
