Abstract

482,838. Cans, cartons, &c. FORTUNE, S. Oct. 12, 1936, No. 27593. [Class 66] A lever pivotally attached to a can, carton, or like container is arranged to bear thereon both within and without the boundary of a frangible area, whereby the area is caused to be broken away from the wall or end of the container. In the construction shown a lever 12 is rotatably mounted in a sleeve 13 attached to a part 14 of a can, carton, &c. to be removed to open the container, the bends 12b bearing on the end of the container outside the removable portion. The part to be removed may be an area defined by weakening lines or may be a strip soldered or otherwise secured over an opening. In the case of liquid containers, a pouring lip 16 may be provided adjacent to the opening. Specifications 353,598 and 422,746 are referred to.
