Abstract
482,708. Positive clutches ; converting rotary into oscillating motion. GEE, H. T. P. (Beatty Bros., Ltd.) Nov. 25, 1937, No. 32544. [Classes 80 (i) and 80 (ii)] The vertical agitator shaft 23 of a washing- machine is journalled in a sleeve 21 fixed in a gear casing 10 and has keyed to its lower end a member 26 which is journalled on the sleeve 21 and which has at its upper end a recess adapted to receive the end of an oscillating pinion 20 journalled on the sleeve 21, the recess being provided with clutch teeth engageable with the teeth of the pinion, which latter is movable vertically under the control of a spring-pressed sliding fork 31. The pinion is oscillated by a rack 17 which is connected to a crank-pin 22 on a worm-driven wheel 13 and which is held in engagement with the pinion by a saddle member 18 mounted on an eccentric pin 19, so as to be capable of adjustment. A wringer post 15 is connected to the wheel 13, the shafts 15 and 23 being supported by straps 16 and 24 secured to the wheel 13 and the casing respectively.
