Abstract
2 : 4-Dioxo-3 : 3-diallyl- and di-n-propyl-6-methyl-1 : 2 : 3 : 4-tetrahydropyridines, which possess soporific properties, are prepared by reacting 2 : 4-dioxo-3 : 3-diallyl- and di-n-propyl-6-methyl-pyrandihydrides with ammonia. An example is given. The starting materials are prepared by treating 6-methyl-2 : 4-dioxopyrandihydride in aqueous caustic alkali with an allyl halide, preferably in the presence of copper, and if necessary reducing the product.
