Abstract

481,661. Vehicle spring suspensions. MORRISON & SONS, Ltd., A. E., MORRISON, A. E., and MORRISON, A. C. Oct. 15, 1936, No. 28552/35. [Class 108 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In an electrically-propelled road vehicle of the three-wheeled type in which the single wheel is supported or carried from one side only, the wheel is suspended from a spring or springs supported by a part on or associated with the vehicle framework and connected to the movable wheel carrying part or member in such a way that the spring action is effective directly over the wheel centre. In Fig. 4, the wheel 31 is shown mounted on a stub-axle 32 on a carrying member 33 connected by pivoted links 34 to a bracket 35 on the chassis frame, the upper end of the member being bent over the wheel and attached by straps 38 to a half-elliptic spring 37 connected by shackles 40 to frame uprights 39. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the stub-axle 43 is formed on an arm 44 bent at right-angles at its end 44a and pivoted in brackets 46 on the vehicle frame, an upright 47 rigid with the arm carrying a pin 48 so that the connection to a quarter-elliptic spring 49 on the frame is directly over the wheel centre. Fig. 1 shows the fore part of an electrically-propelled vehicle in which the front steering and driving wheel 12 is suspended in the manner of the invention, being carried by a chain casing 24 pivoted to the lower end of a downward extension 1b of the steering head 1a, an upwardly extending arm 15 rigid with the casing being connected by a shackle 14, directly over the wheel centre, to a quarterelliptic spring 13 carried by the steering head.
