[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 1, 1937.] [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A buoyant body 2 located in a guiding chamber 50 in a tank 1 is connected by an annulus 51 to a zone at or near the middle of a bellows 52, the upper end of which is attached at 53 to the tank and the lower end to a fixed depending rod 56. The movements of the annulus 51 are transmitted by a stirrup 59 to a horizontally-pivoted plate 61 carrying a ramp 62 which rotates a pivoted cage 63 carrying a roller 64 moving over a resistance 65. The variations in current passing through the resistance are recorded on a dial in terms of liquid volume. In Fig. 3, movement of the bellows is transmitted by member 60 to a pivoted member 67 carrying a truncated cone 69 moving over a helical resistance 70. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the movements of the annulus 51 compress a pile of graphite washers, the variations in the current through the washers being indicated as before. The arrangement of the bellows eliminates any effect due to pressure variations.
