Abstract
480,515. Flickering lamps. MARISCHAL, O. M. C. Aug. 27, 1937, No. 23568. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1936. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iv)] A flickering flame burner for use in signal lamps comprises a wick tube 2 surrounded by an incombustible sheath 6 having air inlets 10 in its lower portion. The wick 3 is raised by an adjusting rod 9 until level with the top of the sheath 6 before being ignited. The air supply is then adjusted until flickering of the required frequency occurs by moving a notched stirrup 11 over the inlets 10. The stirrup may be clamped in position by a screw and nut 14. The sheath 6 is made with a cylindrical base 8 fitting over a ring 7 securing the wick tube to the fuel reservoir 4. The burner may be used in a signal lamp comprising a sheet-metal casing of truncated pyramidal form. The lamp casing is fitted with coloured lenses and has on its lower surface a socket for the passage of a securing screw.
