Abstract
480,264. Change-speed gear control mechanism. SOC. ANON. LE PROGRES INDUSTRIEL. Aug. 19, 1936, No. 22849. Convention date, June 17. [Class 80 (ii)] In preselective control mechanism for changespeed gearing, one or more profile discs or tappet drums such as 11, Fig. 2, is turned to select and is subsequently displaced axially by a tappet on one or other of two oppositelymoved executive rods 6, 7 to effect the selected striking movement. In Fig. 2, there is one tappet drum 11 and it carries axially with it a fork 10 and gear cluster 9 to two end gear positions. The drum 11 is splined on a shaft 1 which is turned to select from a hand-wheel 5. The striking movement is effected by throwing up a hand lever 8 which is articulated to both rods 6, 7, which carry tappets 6A, 7A, adapted alternatively to strike tappets or profile sectors 13, 14 that have been turned into their paths. In Fig. 5 is shown an arrangement by which a single drum 11 is moved to three gear positions, the drum tappets 13, 14 being staggered. The drum 11 moves two steps when a rod tappet 6A engages a nearer drum tappet 13, but it moves only one step when the rod tappet 6A engages a farther drum tappet 14. In Fig. 1 is shown an arrangement in which three tappet drums 2, 3, 4 each carrying a striker are moved in opposite directions selectively by executive rods 6, 7 each having three tappets such as 6A, 6B, 6C.
