Abstract

479,947. High - tension switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Aug. 27, 1936, No. 23552. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] An extinguishing chamber for a circuitbreaker having a differential piston 12 actuated by the pressure generated by the arc formed on separating the contacts 1, 10, includes an insulating wall 18 through which the movable contact passes, the wall being so arranged that, during the first part of the interruption period, it is moved towards the stationary contact 1 by the pressure generated by the arc. This movement results from the pressure produced in the space 21 below the wall 18 when the piston 12 is forced downwards by the pressure generated by the arc. The wall is carried by a cylinder 17, and its movement is damped by a dashpot device 25, the extent of the movement being inversely proportional to the pressure generated by the arc, so that the wall moves nearer to the fixed contact when heavy currents are interrupted than when lighter currents are interrupted. During the latter part of the interruption period, a projection 15 on the piston 12 engages a shoulder 20 on the cylinder 15 and couples the piston to the cylinder carrying the wall 18, so that the latter is moved away from the contact 1. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) in which the extinguishing chamber 37 is movably mounted on a rod 36 secured to the lead-in insulator 31. The pressure generated in the space 44 on separation of the contacts 40, 41 is transmitted through a channel 45 to the space 46 between the upper wall 34 of the chamber 37 and a plunger 32 secured to the end of the rod 36. The space below the plunger is in communication with the atmosphere through a channel 47, so that the pressure generated by the arc moves the whole extinguishing chamber bodily upwards, and carries the insulating wall 38 forming the bottom of the chamber nearer to the fixed contact 41. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
