Abstract

479,882. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and STRONG, C. E. Aug. 14, 1936, No. 22462. [Class 40 (v)] In an amplifier comprising a push-pull output stage and provided with a negative feed-back path for feeding back waves including the range of transmitted frequencies, the voltage to be fed back is derived from tappings adjustable to positions unbalanced about the earth point on impedances connected between the plates of the output valves. By this means, the proportion of the output voltage which is fed back can be readily controlled, and a desired amount of additional second harmonic component can be fed back at the same time. The input stage 2 of the amplifier may be a single valve or the early stages may be Class A pushpull amplifier stages, and the feed-back path may be connected to the resistance bridge 6, the feed-back voltage being obtained from a potentiometer 4, connected across the primary winding of the output transformer B, by adjustable tappings which are on either side of the earthed centre point of the potentiometer. By maintaining the distance between the tappings unchanged but adjusting them along the potentiometer it is possible to feed back second harmonic voltages in adjustable degree. The tappings are connected to a low-power transformer D, having a wide frequency response characteristic, the secondary winding of which is connected to the bridge 6.
