Abstract
479,557. Coffee urns. HARPER, H. D. Jan. 12, 1937, No. 970. [Class 129] In coffee-making apparatus in which water is heated in a lower chamber and is forced up a central pipe to spray over coffee grounds and drop into a beverage collecting vessel, means are provided to cause successive small quantities of the water to be raised to infusion temperature as they pass up the pipe. The lower member 10 for the water is provided with an electrical heater 34 regulated by a thermostat bar 52 which interrupts the circuit when flexed by too great a heat. The member 10 is closed by a cover 64 secured by interengaging projections 58, 60 and having a central pipe 66 carrying asbestos gaskets 74 and a conical rubber seating 72 for making a fluid tight joint with the depression 92 in the beverage container 90. A hollow member 80 is provided on the base of the pipe 66 so as to cover the heater 34. As the water is heated, the expansion of the air on the surface of the water in the member 10 and the steam from the tube 84 force a small quantity of water in the cover 80 up the pipes 66, 100 to spray over the coffee grounds in the infuser 112 and fall finally into the vessel 90. Further water enters the cover 80 and flows round the hot surface 89 and a further small quantity of water is delivered to the infuser 112. This intermittent delivery is continued till sufficient beverage has been brewed.
