[Class 94 (i)] In a packet of the block-ended type as described in Specification 255,937, [Class 94 (i)], or in a packet with closing folds at both ends, an extension of an under flap is bent back on the flap so as to project beyond the closure flap, the extension corresponding to a cut-away portion on the opposite edge of the wrapper. As shown in Fig. 1, the wrapper 6 is provided midway of its length with a tab 7 extending from the edge and corresponding with a cutaway portion 7a in the opposite edge, and with slits 14 on each side. The tab itself and the wrapper may be formed with a box pleat 20 extending across the wrapper to guide the tearing. The pleat may be secured by knurling or adhesive or both and the adhesive may be coloured. Alternatively, a strip of material, which may be coloured, or a succession of short strips at spaced intervals, may replace the pleat. In order to avoid waste of material, the tab may be cut in successive wrappers to form a recess 7a at the opposite side. The wrapper may be applied as shown in Fig. 3, around two pairs of opposed faces of a packet 8 to form a tube with an overlapping seam 9. The narrow flaps 10, 11 are next formed, the tab 7 being turned through 180‹ to lie on the outer surface of the middle flap. The flaps 12, 13 are turned down to complete the wrapping, the tab 7 extending from beneath the flaps sufficiently to be grasped for tearing the packet open.
