Abstract

479,333. Electromagnetic relays. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1937, No. 22900. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1936. [Class 38 (v)] A D.C. source 1 is adapted to be connected to a load 2 over a circuit-breaker, the winding 4 of which is controlled by a relay 5 energized across the source 1 in series with unidirectional conducting means 7, which only conducts when the polarity of the source is correct. Winding 5 is shunted by a further unidirectional conducting means 8 which, if the means 7 becomes internally short-circuited, and the source-polarity is incorrect, acts to shortcircuit winding 5 and prevent its operation, but with normal polarity, a short-circuit in 7 still allows 5 to be energized. An impedance 6 of relatively-high value to that of 5, limits the current through 7, 8 to a safe value.
