Abstract
479,207. Knitting -machines. WILKINSON & CO., Ltd., T. F., and WEBSTER, J. Aug. 31, 1936, Nos. 23742/36 and 14333/37. [Class 74 (ii)] In a warp machine having oscillating front and rear warp guides and reciprocating front and rear weft carriers, one of the warp guides is reciprocated to pass its warps around the needles and the front weft carrier is given a slight vertical movement prior to traversing the needles. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the machine comprises a number of sets of latch needles 2 for producing small wares and a corresponding number of adjustable take-up rollers 44 mounted on a chain driven shaft 45, the needle sets being carried by a common bar 5 that is reciprocated vertically by a cam 10. Warp threads, supplied from individual bobbins, are fed to the machine by front and rear guides 25, 26 suspended from a cam-actuated rock-shaft 30 and, during the rocking movement, the warp guide 25 is shogged by the action of a cam 34 on a spring- loaded slide 37 to pass the threads around the needles. The weft threads are laid by sets of guides 13, 14 on bars 15, 16 respectively, which are reciprocated in the same or in opposite directions by cams 17, 18, the bar 15 carrying the front guides being raised at the beginning of its traverse, by the movement of pins 21 in cam slots 22, to allow the guides 13 to pass between the front and rear warps. The latches of the needles are held open after clearing their loops by a cam-actuated plate 47. When elastic fabrics are being produced the rear threads Bare elastic and are fed from a separate beam. The warp threads A are fed from individual bobbins and tensioned by weights which may be used to effect stoppage on breakage of the yarn. According to the first Provisional Specification the weft threads are laid across the front and rear of the needles.
