Abstract

478,122. Gas-blast switches. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. June 9, 1936, No. 16154. Convention date, June 14, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XL] In an arc-converter or switch, provided with main electrodes 7 and apertured insulating members 1 adapted to guide an arcquenching medium in the direction shown by the arrows, reignition of the arc is prevented by curved conducting surfaces 5 which are arranged on either side of the central transverse plane at a distance b therefrom equal to v, t, where v is the velocity of the medium in the arc gap and t is the duration of the zero current pause. The distance between the members 1 is preferably equal to or smaller than the diameter of the apertures therein. The copper members 5 may have a curvature known as a Rogowski profile, and may be connected directly to the electrodes, or may have a potential which is intermediate those on the main electrodes. The conductive surfaces may consist of coatings sprayed on, or of members embedded in, the insulating member.
