Abstract
477,747. Supply systems for discharge and incandescent lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 21, 1937, No. 11444. Convention date, April 24, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Resistance control.-A device comprises a high-pressure metal-vapour discharge tube, an incandescent filament and a resistance having a high negative temperature coefficient, all in series. The resistance compensates the low initial voltage of the discharge tube and maintains the voltage across the filament substantially constant. The resistance may be a sintered silicon-ceramic mixture of the kind described in Specification 442,348, [Group XXXVI]. A heating resistance may be connected in parallel with the main resistance, being, for example, wound round it. Initial and final voltages and currents in an example are given.
