477,460. Tempering glass. CORNING GLASS WORKS. June 30, 1936, No. 18165. Convention date, July 1, 1935. [Class 56] A process for making a tempered article of soda-lime glass consists in heating the article to a temperature which is substantially uniform throughout its thickness and about the softening point of the glass, and then chilling it in a bath of molten inorganic salts maintained at such a temperature that the degree of temper in the glass is just less than that at which its fracture is explosive.
