Abstract
477,339. Reciprocating pumps. GRACIA, A. Juno 25, 1936, No. 17653. Convention date, July 3, 1935. [Class 102 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] In the driving-gear of a reciprocating-engine, pump, &c. one or several cardan mechanisms are arranged, in each of which the elements are arranged at a substantial angle to each other, so as to cause speed variations in the axial motion of the piston which are wholly or in part equivalent, but opposite, to the variations normally found, to thereby produce a more uniform axial speed. In the construction shown, one or more angularly disposed shafts with cardan-joint connections 10, 11 are arranged between a crank-shaft 4 and a flywheel shaft 14 to which one of the cardanjoint elements is geared. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 includes modifications. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 (Cancelled), a wheel 5 is mounted on the crank-pin, and the connecting-rod 7 is connected to an eccentric point 6 on the wheel 5. The wheel 5 is half the diameter of the wheel 4 upon which it rolls. The wheel 4 may be stationary or rotated. In a modification of this arrangement, the wheel 5 runs on the inside of the wheel 4. In the modification shown in Fig. 4a (Cancelled), elliptical gearing 15, 16 is arranged between the crank-shaft and the fly-wheel shaft. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
