Abstract
476,819. Cooling dynamo electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BINNEY, E. A. July 15, 1936, No. 19686. [Class 35] A totally enclosed machine has separate ducts or sets of ducts for external air spaced apart about the periphery of the casing, the external surface of the main part of the casing between the ducts being exposed to the surrounding atmosphere. In the form shown, external air entering the ducts 6a in the commutator enclosure at one end of a double armature machine continues along ducts formed between the ribs 6d, the sets of ducts being separated by parts of the machine casing to which the surrounding air has access, ribs 6f being provided on these parts. A cover (not shown) encloses each set of ribs 6d and a band also surrounds the commutator enclosure, but is removed when access to the brushgear is to be obtained.
