[Class 112] Lubricating means are provided for the forward bearing of the loop-taker shaft and the bobbin case such that no attention is required for a long period and over-lubrication and soiling of work is avoided. An oil reservoir 24 is mounted in a recess in the standard 2 so as to be visible to the operator but protected from possible damage. This reservoir is connected to the oil feed well 20 in the main bearing 8 of the loop-taker shaft 7 by a tube 25. The reservoir has a regulating valve controlled by a nut 30, and may have a cut-off. The bearing lug 8 has a bushing 10 supporting the shaft 7. The shaft 7 has an axial bore 12 connected through a radial duct 13 in the loop taker 14 with a duct 15 which supplies lubricant to the bobbin raceway 16. The shaft 7 also has a radial duct 18 extending from the slot 18x which is aligned with the duct 19 at each rotation of the shaft to pick up lubricant from the well 20. The bore 12 and ducts 13, 15 may be filled with wick. To lubricate the bore 11 of the bearing bush 10 it is provided with a longitudinal groove 22 communicating with the duct 19, and the shaft 7 has a peripheral groove 21. To prevent escape of oil from the well 20 to the cloth plate, the well is closed by a screw plug 23. Specification 269,869, [Class 12 (ii)], is referred to.
