Abstract

A ceramic refractory substance is made by burning a mixture consisting mainly of at least two magnesium silicates of the class known as steatites or talcs or soapstones, the natural crystals of which are of different sizes. Such a mixture may comprise Göpfersgrün soapstone and Chinese (whitefiring) talc. Clay, alumina or alkaline earths may be added.
