Abstract

Solid combustible materials such as wood or fabric are fireproofed by treatment with a condensation product of dicyanodiamide or a derivative thereof such as dicyanodiamidine, guanidine, biguanide, melam, ammeline, ammelide or melamine with an aldehyde, with or without the addition of combustion-retarding substances such as phosphoric acid, boric acid or hydrobromic acid or substances which prevent decay or combat vermin or insects. In examples, fireproofing - compositions are prepared by (1) condensing formaldehyde and dicyandiamide in the presence of a solution obtained by inverting sugar with aqueous hydrochloric acid and adding phosphoric acid to the product, or (2) condensing formaldehyde with guanidine phosphate obtained by fusing dicyanodiamide with monoammonium phosphate. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers in general to treating combustible substances with condensation products of aldehydes with compounds in which a carbon atom is linked by all its four valencies to nitrogen atoms. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
