Abstract
473,782. Optical systems. HARRISON, W. H., and HARRISON, E. C. June 25, 1936, No. 17716. Convention date, June 25, 1935. [Class 97 (i)] A light-dividing system including a semi-transparent reflecting surface for forming two juxtaposed images for colour photography is so arranged that direct light is prevented from reaching the area upon which the reflected beam is focused. As shown, the semi-transparent mirror surface 12a on a plate 12 divides the incident beam R into a beam R' focused by a lens L<2> on an area 9 of the film 21, and. a beam R<1> focused on an area 8 of the film by a lens L<1> after reflection by a prism 11. The lower face 11a of the prism is highly polished so that rays, such as x, which fall directly on this surface are reflected thereby to fall either on a blackened surface 15 of the plate 12, or on the gate 20 whereby they are prevented from reaching the area 8 of the film. The prism 11 is rotatable about an axis 14 to vary the distance between the areas 8, 9 and is held by screws 16 on a plate 17, the face 11a of the prism being preferably inclined at an angle of 5‹ to the principal ray R. In an alternative construction the semi-transparent surface 12a may be included between two glass prisms and the prism 11 may be replaced by a rotatable plate mirror, the upper surface of the glass prism serving the same purpose as the surface 11a.
