Abstract

473,726. Making rods; casting - machines; castings. FARRER, J. O. (Akt.-Ges. Oederlin & Cie) Sept. 12, 1936, No. 24917. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] A centrifugal casting having substantially the cross-sectional shape desired is brought to the required form by dies while hot. A mould for casting a circular ring or rod or a spiral comprises a mould disc 7, mounted to rotate on a vertical or horizontal axis, and removable annulus 8 secured thereto by bolts 9. The metal is poured through a central opening 12 and passes through a restricted slot 14 or a number of inlets. A brake 16 operated by a lever 17 is used to bring the mould rapidly to rest for removal of the casting which is cut into suitable lengths. The shaft 4 may carry a mould 7 at each end. Moulds.-For producing small articles directly, the mould, or a lining thereof, may have a number of cavities open towards a central runner or a mould of more than two pieces may be used. In all cases the casting is shaped in dies while hot. U.S.A. Specification 1,995,419 is referred to.
