Abstract
Filaments, yarns, fabrics, and the like have incorporated therein two metal compounds adapted to react with one another to form insoluble compounds of each of the metals in the materials. The material may be treated with two soluble metal salts in succession, with an intermediate treatment to convert the first metal salt into a form capable of reaction with the second metal salt so as to form insoluble compounds of both, e.g. first a soluble barium salt followed by treatment with sodium carbonate solution then with aluminium sulphate. After the application of the first metal salt, which in the case of artificial filaments may be incorporated in the spinning solution, the material is preferably allowed to stand. The material may also be treated with a mild softening agent, and artificial materials may be treated prior to or during the process with swelling agents; the salts employed according to the invention may themselves exert a swelling action, e.g. barium thiocyanate. The products are weighted and delustred. Specification 439,203 is referred to.
