Abstract
472,399. Master control of D.C. motors; looking controllers ; switch contacts. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CROFT, E. H. March 18, 1936, No. 8122. [Classes 38 (iii) and 38 (v)] A switch adapted to short-circuit a resistance which is also adapted to be short-circuited step-by-step by switching means, comprises a biassed contact actuating element carrying the movable contact and moved against the bias by an operating cam, an interlock being operated by movement of the actuating element to ensure that the switch is closed before a certain operation of the switching means can occur. A power operated cam-shaft 2 when rotated permits a spring 6 to operate an arm 4 pivoted at 5 to move a contact 3 into engagement with a fixed contact 10. The contact 3 is mounted on a member 7 pivoted on the arm 4 and biassed by a spring 8. At the end of the contact closing movement, the member 7 engages a projection 9 on the arm 4 and is moved positively. Interlock contacts 11 are carried by a rod 12 pivoted at 13 on the arm 4. The invention is described in connection with a series parallel system of motor control employing switching means which control resistances connected first in the motor armature circuits, and then across the motor field the system including two two position groups of switches which may be positioned in like and unlike positions to give a series connection of the motors, a parallel connection, a connection in which the parallel circuits are completed independently of the control resistances and their associated switching means, and a connection for field weakening. A series switch which short-circuits the resistances at the end of the series stage and switches which shortcircuit the resistances at the end of the parallel stage are arranged in accordance with the invention and their interlock contacts operate a catch to prevent movement of the resistance switching means on from their final to their original positions unless these switches have been closed.
