Abstract

Azo dyes for animal fibres are made by coupling diazo compounds of amines of the formula <FORM:0472171/IV/1> (wherein X and Y = H or CH3 and the benzene nucleus may contain further substituents) with any coupling component such that the dyestuffs formed contain at least one solubilizing group. In examples, dyes from the following components are described: diazo components: 1 - (N - acetyl or benzoyl - isopropylamino) - 4-aminobenzene, 1-(N-acetyl-isopropylamino)-3-aminobenzene, 1-(N-methoxyacetyl-isopropylamino)-4-aminobenzene, 1-(N-acetyl-isopropylamino)-4-aminobenzene-2-sulphonic acid, 1-(N - acetyl- or benzoyl - sec. - butylamino) - 4-aminobenzene, 1 - (N - p - toluenesulpho - isopropylamino) - 4 - aminobenzene, 1 - (N - benzenesulpho-sec.-butylamino)-4-aminobenzene; coupling components: 2-naphthol-6 : 8-disulphonic acid, 1-naphthol-3- or 4-sulphonic acid, 2-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid, 1-naphthol-3 : 6- or 3 : 8-disulphonic acid, N-acetyl H or K acid, g -acid, 1-(2<1>-chloro-5<1>-sulphophenyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, N-benzoyl M acid, N-benzoyl or acetyl J acid, N-acetyl g -acid. Other acyl derivatives such as the methoxyacetyl, chloracetyl, carbethoxyacetyl, benzoyl, hexahydrobenzoyl and phenoxyacetyl derivatives of 2 : 8 : 6-, 1 : 8 : 6, 1 : 5 : 7- and 2 : 5 : 7-acids may also be used. The diazo components are made by condensing 1-chlor-4-nitrobenzene or its 2-sulphonic acid with the corresponding amine, if necessary splitting off the sulpho group, acetylating and reducing or by acetylating, nitrating and reducing the corresponding alkylamine.
