Abstract

471,654. Kinematograph apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Jan. 13, 1937, No. 1057. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1936. [Class 97 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In apparatus comprising one or more smooth filmdriving rollers, a driven takeup spool, and a braked payout spool, means is provided between the last driving roller and the take-up spool for arresting the film at will; the arrest causes the film to disengage from the driven rollers, so that they are ineffective notwithstanding their continued rotation, and enables the film quickly to be fed at its normal speed when the arrest ceases. As shown, the film 1 is drawn from a pay-out spool 2, over rollers 3, 4, by a driven roller 5, and passes over a sound gate 6 and roller 7 to a take-up spool 8. A rubber knob 12 on a spring-pressed lever 11 may engage and arrest the film, and the coupling between the rollers 4, 5 may then be broken to prevent undue enlargement of the film loop. so formed. The film may be wound on to a disc 8, Fig. 2, drawn by a spring 27 into engagement with a felt &c. covered disc 17, driven by a belt 22, to provide a slipping drive ; the pay-out spool may be braked by a similar drive tending to turn it in a direction opposite to that in which it is turned by the film. The film may be rewound over a path including a roller 28.
