Abstract
<PICT:0471424/III/1> A method of assembling converters which comprise a contact chamber traversed by fluid - conducting conduits consists in introducing the conduits into the chamber through a manhole 9 and then securing them to one wall so that they extend across the chamber and terminate near or within the opposite wall. The method is applicable to conduits comprising concentric tubes such as those described in Specification 414,779. Such a conduit 13 may be positioned by passing its lower end through an opening 16 in the bottom plate of the chamber as shown at D, the inner and outer elements of the conduit being in loosely nested relationship. The inner conduit 13b is then raised into position projecting through the upper plate as at E, and a sleeve 17 is lowered over it and connected to the top of the outer conduit 13a and the upper plate 7 of the contact chamber. The upper ends of the sleeve 17 and the inner conduit 13b are also connected. The aperture 16 is finally closed by a plug 15. The conduits occupying the space below the manhole are attached to the manhole cover before it is fitted. The converter may also be fitted with a second set of conduits, shown in the Figure as single perforated tubes 22, and rings or projections 21 may be fitted to keep the two sets out of contact with each other.
