Abstract

471,379. Sterilizing dental instruments; heating water by electricity. MISCHOL, E. March 30, 1936, No. 9356. Convention date, Feb. 10. [Class 81 (i)] [Also in Group XI] Dental instruments are sterilized by immersion in heated soap-spirit. In the case of instruments with enclosed driving gear, e.g. hand- and angular pieces, subsequent lubrication is unnecessary. Prior to sterilization they should be cleansed with benzine. A suitable sterilizer comprises a boiler 1 in which water is heated electrically, e.g. by immersion heaters. It is provided with carrying handles 2 and a sight glass 3, and is closed by a cover 4 having a bayonet joint connection 5. The soap-spirit container 8, projecting through a central aperture in the cover, is closed by a lid 12 and is formed with a wire foot 10. Carrying handles 11 are provided on the container 8. A support 13 for the instruments consists of a wire upright 14, the upper end being formed as a handle, and the lower end terminating in a plate 16 spaced from the bottom of container 8 by a wire foot 17. Wire rings 19 are secured to the upright 14 by spokes, between which the larger instruments are placed. Small instruments are placed in slotted sector-shaped containers formed with a shoulder to engage the spokes of the rings 19. These containers are removed by a hook which also serves for removing the support 13. The cover 4 is formed with an aperture 6 through which tongs for the removal of the instruments may be inserted for sterilization in the boiling water. If the soapspirit should inspissate after long use, equal parts of alcohol and distilled water can be added.
